LETS TRY TOGETHER TO CONTINUE OUR CONSERVATION EFFORT after THE
TSUNAMI
Naucrates is looking for volunteers to help in the post tsunami evaluation
of turtle nesting activities at Phra Thong Island.
Naucrates, after the devastating experience of the tsuanmi, will be back to
work on the field at Phra Thong island from 4 January to 26 March 2006. Two
teams will work on the island: one located at Tapaioi village and one at
Golden Buddha Beach resort (GBB).
The team located in the village will focus on an education programme for the
local school and the local community. Conservation and basic English will be
the main topics of the teaching programme. At the same time, Naucrates
researchers will conduct a study on juveniles turtle feeding ground in the
area.
The other team located at GBB resort will conduct a beach monitoring in
order to find and protect turtle nests (January to April), mangrove
restoration project (January) and reef survey (February). The main objective
of the season is to conduct a post tsunami evaluation of the turtle nesting
population, of the mangrove forest and the reef at Ko Pling.
